Personality: When she has her mask on, Gilded is bubbly out going pony who loves to talk others ears off about almost anything often going down long tangents if she's allowed to talk for to long. She has a large knowledge of combat and is not afraid to talk about all the gritty details about war. She seems fearless or reckless at times as she's more than willing to walk up to a changeling, diamond dog, or dragon and start talking to them as if they were just another pony. She leaps at any opportunity for fun in an effort to fight off her ever present boredom. However, when she's not wearing her mask she becomes much more reserved and shy becoming very sensitive to anypony looking at her to long, especially at her eyes.
Occupation: Ex-military engineer, Town repair pony, Inventor
Cutie Mark: Wrench tightening a bolt
Bio: Born somewhere completely different from where most ponies live, Gilded Gears grew up in a war-zone living underground as shells, and magical artillery pounded the lands above flat. The high amounts of magic floating about the air caused her to mutate making her eyes the unique red on black that they are, but she was hardly the only mutation in her den so she thought little of it. From birth she was taught to fight in the war and use her unicorn magic for the good of those around her. She found that she did her best when it came to fixing the various vehicles and weapons that other ponies used and earned her cutie mark. Despite her relatively safe job as an engineer, she still had to kill several other ponies and other creatures to stay alive.
She might have continued this life style until she died if she hadn't been caught in the blast of an chaos magic bomb. The bomb's magic teleported her far from home to a place where ponies hardly had a concept of war, which was a nice change, but quickly became dull for her. To try and remain entertained, she set up show as a repair pony in the town and spent her free time tinkering with various things and trying to recreate a few things from home that she missed.
It took her a few weeks to figure out that other ponies in town were treating her differently and some even seemed to be avoiding her. Curious she corned one such pony after a long chase and asked why he was avoiding her. He told her that because of her mask she looked frightening to him, she took off her mask and the pony began to scream. This took Gilded by surprise and she quickly reapplied her mask and repeated the same process of asking ponies why they feared her and showing them her face, the results were almost always the same, most ponies began to scream and look at her like a monster when they saw her red black and red eyes were not the results of her mask. This fact made Gilded retreat to her shop for several days as she absently tinkered trying to figure out why everypony was so scared of her eyes, no one had ever been bothered by her eyes before.
Confused and depressed Gilded fell back on a time honored tradition from back home, go to a bar and drink until she felt better. Gilded drank heavily as she muttered to no pony about how odd it was that ponies were bothered by her eyes and for the first time in the months she'd been away, she wanted to go home. She was saved from her depression by the bartender who told her that her eyes weren't that big a deal and that he had seen far worse during his time as a bartender. Gilded asked how she was suppose to deal with ponies being afraid of her, she was advised to simply be who she was and not let it bother her.
Gilded has taken the advice to heart and now happily skips through town ignoring any fearful gazes that drift her way and letting her bubbly personality sway people's opinions. She has slowly begun to gain friends, but is still feeling very self conscious about her eyes and how they affect ponies. As such she keeps her gasmask on as much as possible, especially around ponies who don't know her that well.
Episode Idea: Gilda Gears is tinkering in her workshop mixing potions into a large machine. The machine explodes propelling Gilda out of workshop where she crashes into a pony. When she gets up to apologize she gasp seeing that the pony she crashed into has become a changeling. The next scene opens with the changeling laying on his back on a rough couch in a living room stuffed with bits of machinery and tools. The changeling quietly gets off the couch and tries to creep over to the door only to have the door burst open to reveal Gilda with her gasmask off carrying a plate full of cookies. She spots the changeling who leaps back and hisses. Gilda trots pass the changeling with a happy comment about how she's glad he's awake and offers him a cookie promising that they were made with extra love so he should like them. The changeling demands to know what Gilda is up to, Gilda dismisses the distrust saying she's doing what anypony would and offers the changeling a cookie again after eating one herself. A knock on the door causes the changeling to quickly assume a disguise and Gilda to don her mask before answering it.
At the door is (insert name) who was asking if his (insert item) was fixed yet. Noticing the disguised changeling (insert name) ask who Gilda's friend is, she happily informs him that it is a changeling she crashed into earlier and hasn't gotten to ask his name yet. Both (insert name) and the changeling gasp in shock while Gilda looks between the two in confusion. (Insert name) leaps forward to stand between Gilda and the changeling as the changeling resumes its natural state and strike an offensive stance. The two glare at each other for half a second before Gilda grabs (Insert name) by the tail and yanks him back onto his rump and glares down at him scolding him for being so rude to her guest. The changeling takes its chance and pounces at the both of them, Gilda grabs it by the hoof and easily pins the creature to the ground while continuing to scold (Insert name). (Insert name) points out that the changeling just attacked her and she states that the poor guy was probably scared if (Insert name's) behavior was any example for how most ponies treat a changeling, the poor guy was hardly more than a filly. The changeling stops struggling and lets the changeling up, it retreats to the couch watching the two uneasily. Gilda ask (Insert name) to leave, he agrees but says that he's going to tell everyone else about the changeling and that it had best be gone before they force it to leave. Gilda scoffs at the threat and pushes (Insert name) out the door. Gilda closes the door and lowers her gasmask with a huff muttering about racism. The changeling ask why Gilda would defend him from other ponies since changelings feed on ponies so they must be enemies. Gilda laughs at the thought stating that the idea of ponies and changelings being enemies is ridiculous before stating that she always liked changelings because they didn't judge by appearances. A smoke alarm goes off and Gilda curses running out of the room. The changeling watches her leave obviously confused before reaching down and trying a cookie, he seems to enjoy it before his face turns red and smoke starts boiling from his ears as he bolts out the door. Gilda returns to the living room dragging a fire extinguisher and covered with soot. She drops the extinguisher complaining about how fickle the darned radiator was, she looks about noticing the changeling is gone and hopes he's okay as she eats another cookie.
In town (Insert name) is shouting to a crowd of ponies that a changeling was being held at Gilda's house and that she was refusing to let them arrest it, he believes they should surround her home and show her the town was concerned with her keeping a dangerous creature in her home and demand to take it to the jail cell. The changeling, hiding behind a nearby cart hears this and smiles wickedly. The changeling changes into a beat up version of Gilda and runs out to the crowd crying for help. The changeling spins a tail of woe about how the changeling attacked her and is trying to take her place and how lucky she was to have escaped. The town is in outrage and surge up the hill towards Gilda's workshop on the hill being led by (Insert name) and the changeling.
Gilda is busy fiddling with a record player in her workshop when she hears a number of shouts outside. She slides on her gasmask and peers through the hole in the wall she made at the start of the episode and sees a large crowd of angry ponies. Gilda sighs and walks outside to meet the crowd. Gilda begins to apologize for the number of explosions she's made today and that she's very sorry if they scared anyone when she is interrupted by (Insert name) who accuses her of being the changeling. Gilda states that she has no idea where the changeling has gone when she spots herself in the crowd, her eyes darken as she starts to storm up to the changeling. Two large colts move to stop her, Gilda grabs the two colts and slam their heads together causing them both to stagger for a moment before falling down. The crowd draws back a bit and clears a path to the suddenly worried looking changeling. Gilda grabs him by the scruff of the neck and tells him to, "Drop it." The changeling drops the disguise causing the crowd to gasp as the changeling begins to sweat. Gilda snarls a short bit about how nice she's been to the changeling and how he has decided to repay her. The changeling ask if she's willing to forgive him and be friends. As an answer, a very large wrench comes floating out of Gilda's workshop and Gilda states that as his friend she'll give him a head start. The changeling bolts off as a blur and everypony watches him go.
(Insert name) ask if she's learned not to trust changelings anymore. Gilda admits that she might have been too trusting of that last changeling, but she's not going to write off the whole species for one bad apple. (Insert name) sighs and ask about his (insert item). Gilda tells him that a gem inside the (insert item) is completely unusable and she needs to go off with Spike and a few of his friends to get some more. A large hole suddenly appears in the ground an a diamond dog pokes his head out asking if Gilda is ready. Gilda informs the dog she is and promptly jumps down the hole with the diamond dog as the hole fills up behind her. (Insert name) stands in shock for a few moments before saying, "Nope." and walking away.
